While I don’t want to ruin the surprise for you, I can tell you that Truth or Square will be much, much, more than your normal SpongeBob episode! Everything you’ve come to love from the last ten years has been jam-packed into this one extravaganza. Comedy, drama, suspense, Plankton getting smushed; its all there.
I once wrote a sea shanty (but please, don’t ask me to sing. Trust me, it’s for your own good.)
Hmm… perhaps I should write about giant foil balls… or maybe what I got for my eighth birthday… or maybe what socks smell like…” But then, from far left of Jellyfish Fields, it came to me!
Ten years before that, my father had introduced me to Saturday morning TV (much to my mother’s chagrin – she had visions of me playing outdoors and using my imagination all the time). From the day my dad and I sat down and watched my first cartoons, I was hooked. I couldn’t stop watching them.
You want more. No! You DEMAND more out of your SpongeBob experience. That, my friends, is why we write this blog. For you, the diehard fans that want to know what makes the cast and crew of SpongeBob tick
It’s hard to believe it was ten years ago already … ten years ago when I was nothing but a wet-behind-the-ears, wide-eyed young ne’er do well, trolling the docks of Hollywood for fame or, barring that, work. That’s when I was suddenly and rudely gang-pressed into service on the H.M.S. Herbivore...
Ahoy, mates! Well, this week, there’s good news, and bad. The good news is, our plucky crew managed to install a “web cam” very close to the real Bikini Bottom, which is deep in an undisclosed location in the South Pacific.
Last time I “blogged”, I gave an example of where I get my ideas for SpongeBob “cartoons”. (I guess the real question is where do I get my ideas for what words get “quotation marks”.) In reference to that topic, let me tell you I love my wife.

Aloha, friends of the sponge! Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Derek Iversen, a writer on SpongeBob SquarePants. I’m privileged and honored to be part of a team that brings you the best tales from the deepest deep, where SpongeBob and his friends reside. I’ve been on this salty crew for some time now. I started on SpongeBob more than ten years ago, when Nickelodeon first decided to roll the dice on our rectangular friend.
Greetings fellow SpongeBob fans, and welcome to the inaugural post of the official SpongeBob Crew Blog! Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a SpongeBob writer is like? Or what exactly it is that our Creative Director does? Or what our Layout Supervisor thought about his lunch last Tuesday? Well fear not, my Bikini Bottom minded friend! For soon you will be able to return to this very webpage to learn answers to all these exciting questions, and more!
Where do we get our ideas? As a writer on “SpongeBob”, I’m often asked that question. Really, you say. By who, you ask? When did they ask this alleged question? Where were you when they supposedly asked, you ask? And what were you wearing? Is there any truth to that at all, you ask? ALL RIGHT ENOUGH ALREADY!!
